Dear Polykum reader
In the name of the new VSETH board I would like to welcome you back to ETH. I hope you have returned with fresh energy from your well-deserved break. To all Erstis, a warm welcome at ETH. I hope you all had success in finishing whatever you were doing in the summer, be that the Matura exam for Erstis, normal exams for most of us, or maybe even a thesis.
I’m Clemens, and I’m the new President of VSETH for this year. Before taking on this role, I studied electrical engineering for my Master’s degree. Some of you may already have seen me, either online, where my face appeared in various social media posts and newsletters over the past weeks, or in person at events. Even before becoming president, I was active in VSETH in different ways, often as a helper at many events, whether organised by VSETH or other associations.
The start of a new academic year is always both stressful and rewarding. Seeing the campus come alive again on the first day is something I look forward to every year. The new VSETH board officially begins its work on the Tuesday of the first semester week, meaning the very first day is still in the hands of the old board. In the second week, while the new board is still settling into its roles, the ESF takes place, the biggest party organised by VSETH. Offering such an unforgettable experience for the Erstis requires months of preparation and hundreds of hours of help before, during, and after the event. At this point, I would like to thank everyone who made this amazing event possible.
Now that the semester is slowly finding its rhythm, it is time to start working on other projects. One of the main topics that will occupy us this year is again PAKETH, the revision of the academic calendar and other aspects of study regulations. We are closely involved in many parts of this process and will continue to bring in the voice of students wherever possible.
VSETH isn’t just an organisation where work gets done. It’s also a community where people come together to spend an amazing time, be that just as a participant or as a helper, or even as an organiser. Depending on who you ask, organising, or helping at an event is actually more fun than participating in it. (This might apply to me – otherwise, I would probably not have ended up in my position)
