Dear students, dear readers,
I sincerely hope that your exams went well, and that you have started well into the spring semester! Most of you will be wondering why there is so little time between the end of the exam session and the beginning of the semester. More generally, you will have wondered why there are so little breaks at ETH. This has been a subject of discussion inside VSETH for some time. We are therefore particularly satisfied that our new rector, Günther Dissertori, has set the reform of the academic calendar as one the main goals of his term. Send us an email at hopo@vseth.ethz.ch. We would be very glad to hear what you appreciate, what you dislike with the current calendar, and what your suggestions are for a new academic calendar.
I will have a discussion with Professor Dissertori on Instagram (@vsethz) so that you get a chance to get to know him and his projects for ETH. One of the main discussion subjects in the past weeks between Professor Dissertori, the ETH Corona-Taskforce and VSETH, were the COVID measures at ETH. We are extremely grateful that events are completely possible again, in the same way as they were before March 2020. Furthermore, we support the fact that masks are compulsory in lectures so that we can protect the more vulnerable students. However, we believe that ETH should relax its rules outside of the lecture halls, for instance at work places. We are confident that together with the taskforce we will be able to find a solution that suits everyone and protects the most vulnerable.
VSETH, its Committees and Study Associations are taking advantage of the relaxed COVID regulations to offer lots of events, such as the weekly PapperlaPub (every Wednesday, 6 p.m. – midnight in CAB D 21), dance courses by Tanzquotient (tanzquotient.org/en/), development and coding workshops (sek.vseth.ethz.ch/), and much more, which you can read about on the Pin-Up Board on the following pages. We have something for everyone!
I would also like to remark that VSETH renewed its Cooperation-Agreement with VSUZH so that we can offer, among other things, free legal advice (en.vsuzh.ch/rechtsberatung) and the Nightline, which has an open ear for any problem you might have. We also hope that as VSUZH will grow, we will be able to share more and more offers with another.
We are also looking forward to organising our Freshers Party (Ersti-Fest/ ESF) next autumn again and are looking for motivated people to help with the planning. You don’t need any experience, just some motivation. If you are interested send us an email: projekte@vseth. ethz.ch.
Finally, I would like to wish you all the best for the coming semester and hope to see you at one of our events.
Nils
