Fellow students, dear readers,
I hope you all enjoyed your Easter holidays! In the second half of the semester, a lot has happened already and we expect more to follow in the upcoming month. May is always an eventful month for us. We started with the Conquering on the 1 May, where participants could get to know Zurich from a different side. On 3 May, VSETH held its first Mitgliederrat (MR) of this year where we adjusted some parts of our budget and fixed some issues in our regulations.
We are looking forward to two more events this month. From 15 May, the Summerbar will open its doors to visitors on the Polyterrasse. Hosted by different organisations each day, it will be open every day during the week starting from the afternoon for the students to enjoy the last days of the semester. And as we have done every other year, the open-air cinema at Hönngerberg – the FLiK – will take place from 24 to 26 May. Don’t forget to check the programme at flik.ethz.ch!
As VSETH we are constantly in contact with other student associations in Switzerland and abroad. In late April, we hosted a group of students from the TU Munich and had an exchange with their student association on issues that our universities and organisations face.
In another collaboration, we have joined forces with our sister school EPFL and its student association AGEPoly to revamp the ETH Days for the first time since 2018. Between 15 and 16 May, 50 ETH students will visit EPFL for a day and 50 students from Lausanne will visit ETH to get a taste of the respective schools. Also coming up this month is the delegates’ assembly of VSS – the Swiss Students’ Union – of which the VSETH is also a member. A delegation of seven student representatives will be in Basel on 13 and 14 May to discuss issues that are relevant to students at national level.
With this being the last issue of Polykum this semester, it also marks my last time writing here as the President of VSETH. On 13 June, the next Mitgliederrat (MR) will take place where the elections for the next VSETH board and we will see a new president next semester. Looking back on my time as president, I am very grateful to have had this opportunity. I thank everyone who has supported me during this time, especially my fellow board members, and every student in VSETH that devotes their time to improve the student life at ETH. My best wishes to the succeeding board and I hope to see you around!
All the best,
Emir
